Investigating Internet crimes: an introduction to solving crimes in cyberspace

Technology understanding, tools, methodology, common sense, and subpoenas. That would be my personal summary of what it takes to be effective as an Internet crime investigator, and this book provides an excellent starting point covering basic and initial training in the first three elements of this characterization. In 18 chapters, the authors, two seasoned law enforcement professionals (one of them a retired police detective sergeant), cover all of the basic material and techniques a new and aspiring Internet crime investigator needs for his very first cases. However, even for an audience with a more pronounced technical background, the work provides valuable hints, checklists, and pointers to additional information, especially in the legal and paralegal area governed by US laws. Nevertheless, the authors do not presuppose much knowledge beyond the level of an interested Internet user.
