Microsoft will use Skype at the entry level to its software-based PBX solution much as it uses Home Server and the variants of Small Business Server to capture the the entry-level server market. I really don't see the fit here ... Aside from the brand, what does Skype have that OCS/Lync can't do? I'm guessing it'll be a very different-looking Skype by this time next year. And more expensive. Dear Dave: It is a logical step within their offer for businesses and social activities to find a place between VOIP and the use of Microsoft Meeting Space: collaborative realtime working in the same documents, presentations, sheets, data, designs, etc. Networking and quick, short meetings are getting more and more important, but travelling (is getting) more expensive.
