Spark 2009

The Spark Festival of Electronic Music and Arts brought new media arts performers and creators to venues around the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul in the USA 17-22 February 2009. Special guests at this year's festival included Kanta Horio, who works with self-built devices, kinetic objects, and gadgets in his sound installations and performances; David Wessel, known for his live and improvisatory computer mu-sic; Douglas Ewart, who works with sculptural instruments, masks, and costumes in live performance; Wafaa Bilal, who uses new media in his politically charged artistic explorations; and Keir Neuringer, an improvising saxophonist and composer of electronic and acoustic music. This year, the Spark organizers launched a community-based commissioning project where audience members had a chance to vote on-line for their favorite works, which will result in a commission for the 2010 Spark Festival for the winning creators.
