In recognising that profliing technologies seem to be one of the most promising technological means to enable a knowledge society to create order n the ever increasing amount of data inherent in an information society, this book takes up the relevant topic of "Profiling the European Citizen". Focusing on automated profiling resulting from the process of data mining, the book takes a cross-disciplinary approach in dealing with the central themes of what profiling is, where it is applied and which potential implications it has for democracy and the rule of law.
