Adjusting for Project Work and Technical Support Activities

Another factor that influences staffing ratios is how support staff divides its time between new projects and ongoing support, which can vary from organization to organization and over time within the same organization. In a special survey undertaken in 2006 involving 141 organizations, we found that server support staff in the typical organization spends about 30% of its time on project-related activities and 70% of its time on ongoing support.
