Concordia's Campus Goes Vertical KPMB's Iconic Solution For a Very Tight Site

Architectural competitions can do many things, but can one help extend and unify an urban college campus? Concordia University is banking on it. When space requirements for its expanding programs and 28,000 students dictated new buildings, Concordia took the unusual and risky step of choosing its architects through a limited competition. Concordia wanted a design-and a designer-that could visually and physically integrate the new buildings with its existing stock, but more importantly, bring a strong identity to a campus that has no open public spaces, landmark buildings, or identifiable architectural tradition.
