Overview of the Communications and broadcasting engineering test satellite (COMETS) project

the COMETS(Communications and Broadcasting Engineering Test Satellite) project began in 1991. Experiments that are scheduled to span about three years will begin with the launching of the H-II rocket No.5 from the NASDA Tanegashima Space Center in the summer of 1997. The main mission of the COMETS project is research and development of a Ka/millimeter-wave band advanced mobile stallite system, a 21-GHz band advanced satellite broadcasing system, and a large-capacity inter-satellite data relay communication system.
