摘要

A defining characteristic of the military operational environment is a need for robust and resilient communications and networking despite significant limitations on the resources of the devices and assumed presence of an adversarial entity attempting to thwart the performance of the networked applications. As a result, research has endeavored to identify resource-efficient methods to overcome these challenges, taking approaches from various layers of the network stack. Further, military research must span all the different technology readiness levels (TRLs), starting from basic research and all the way through applied research and prototyping to, finally, fielding and battle-proven finished products. In the February issue, we present four articles that typically can be considered low TRL, in that they explore and propose solutions that are not fielded, but that address technologies and approaches that may well become very important in the near (or far) future.
