This study explores the resource allocation problem in heterogeneous cognitive radio networks (HetCRNet) in order to enhance spectral and energy efficiency (EE) simultaneously while assuring the quality of service. Towards providing energy-efficient optimality in HetCRNet, energy conservation and its optimal utilisation are much needed. This research work investigates the joint modelling of spectrum efficiency (SE) and EE, under varying channel conditions. Furthermore, devise an approach to provide multiple attribute monitoring to attain simultaneous higher performance. A quality constrained multi-attribute energy-efficient resource allocation scheme in HetCRNet is proposed. First signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for coordinative and non-coordinative conditions is derived to consider varying channel conditions. Based on these derived SNR multi-attribute resource allocations for joint SE and EE in HetCRNet are developed to attain greener communication which considers attributes such as throughput, fairness and battery life of a node. The simulation results validate the improvements in SE in terms of throughput, EE and offered quality in comparison with existing multi-attribute optimisation and joint SE and EE resource allocation with perfect channel state information.
