This article is a critical analysis of the legislative implementation of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in New Zealand. Many other implementing states used the formula method, but New Zealand used the wording method to implement that Convention into domestic law. The true meaning of Convention terms was distorted in the process. Therefore, the terms of the Convention have a different meaning in New Zealand than they do in other implementing states.
