Proximity to a main dealer is often a major deciding factor when truck operators shop around for new or used vehicle purchases. That policy is acutely relevant in Scotland, where in some Highland areas, operators can be more than 100 miles from their nearest franchise. Dundee fares relatively well in this scenario, with five of the big seven truck makers having established facilities in or around the city. Geographically, Renault Trucks has the furthest outpost here, with an authorised service and repair base 23 miles away in Perth. However, that mileage has been no barrier to Brown & Tawse Steelstock of West Pitkerro Industrial Estate in Dundee, which has recently put six Renault trucks into service. The group of Renaults comprises three tractor units and three rigids, all of which will deliver customer orders and collect steel stock from various UK ports.
