TC takes dim view of missed safety checks

Traffic commissioner (TC) for Scotland Joan Aitken has temporarily curtailed by half the O-licence of an Isle of Islay-based haulier for putting profit ahead of safety considerations. In a written decision, following a conjoined public inquiry and driver conduct hearing held in Inverness in May,TC Aitken cut Fraser Woodrow's licence from six to three vehicles for three months from 26 September, after she ruled that his repute had been severely tarnished. The operator was called to PI following a DVSA investigation. Maintenance records produced by the operator at the PI revealed that six-week maintenance inspections were consistently missed, with some vehicles going up to 14 weeks between checks.
