RIGID TIPPERS ARE such a common sight on our roads that it's easy to forget they're actually quite specialist bits of kit, and consequently not easy to find on the used market. What you really want is a dealer who knows a decent example when he sees one, and builds good enough relationships with his customers to be able to deliver what they need, as opposed to something vaguely approaching it. Mercedes-Benz dealership Ciceley Commercials has ended up with just that in the form of used sales executive Ian Heath, who joined the company just six months ago with a remit to effectively start again from scratch. A strong used sales department is vital to any business selling new trucks, not least because otherwise there is no-one to do valuations and dispose of vehicles that come in as part-exchange. Ciceley had been without a dedicated used salesman for more than a year when Heath arrived, and it showed. "There wasn't much going on," he admits, when we meet him at the Carlisle site, one of four within the group. "Nothing was being advertised at all!"
