An investigation dubbed ‘Operation Lex’ has certainly claimed scalps - 41 people are being detained for their alleged involvement in illegal activities, including illegal possession of firearms, drug trafficking, extortion, arson, sports fraud and match-fixing.rnThe investigation is centred on the members of two powerful ‘Ndrangheta crime families – the Ferrentino-Chindamo and Lamari clans based in the city of Laureana di Borrello, near Reggio Calabria, whose reach has extended from the south to the north of Italy. Among the assets seized last November were a construction firm based in Lombardy, an import-export business that worked out of the port of Gioia Tauro, Calabria, and an amateur football club from Calabria owned by the Lamari clan - the Polisportiva Laureanese - which plays in Group B of the Promozione league, Italy’s sixth national level.
