Having been involved in the shooting sports and a member of the firearms media since... well let's just say for quite some time now.. .I have seen a number of changes. Some were important and some of no importance whatsoever. My editor queried me as to what I felt was the most current and notable of these changes. After ruminating for a while, I responded, "Duty and CCW pistols fitted with optical sights." At one time, electronic dot sights for pistols were restricted almost completely to handguns used in competitive shooting. Back in the day these were large, bulky units and often required extensive modifications to the pistol to mount them. They were considered too large for use on service/defensive type pistols and many feared that the sights' batteries would give up the ghost at a most inconvenient time. The latter reason was uppermost in the minds of law enforcement and defensive shooters.
