Effect of process parameters and technology on wet processing of elastane based cotton knits

Knitted fabrics are known for their superior, elastic recovery property, over woven and non-woven fabrics, and hence they are widely used for body-fit garments. The use of elastane yarn, in knitted fabrics, further enhances the elastic recovery and therefore knitted garments, made out of these yarns, have become popular, especially, for casual and sportswear. The elastic recovery property, of the finished knitted fabric, depends upon the conditions under which the material is scoured, bleached and dyed, and also the type of machines used during wet processing. In order to retain the high degree of elasticity, it is essential that scouring, bleaching and dyeing have to be carried out with utmost care, because prolonged hot/wet treatments in the presence of chemicals and excessive stretch/tension during wet processing would result in the loss of elasticity.
