Dyeing of cotton fabric by Aloevera (Natural Colourant)

ECO-friendliness is one of the important concerns in textile industries. Ecological consideration is fast becoming more a important factor in the marketing of consumer goods all over the world. In the textile field, it is now realized that the number of dyes and chemicals being used in the industry contain toxic and hazardous substances, which not only affect the consumer but also cause severe damages to the environment. In this regard Germany has taken a lead and imposed a ban on the use of azo-dyes containing harmful amines in the textile production. An attempt has been made to dye the cotton fabric with natural colourant obtained from the Aloe-Vera plant by using minimal amount of chemicals. The effect of dye, dye up take, behaviour of dye and various fastness properties and effect of various chemicals in dyeing has been studied.
