An overview of the Turkish textile and apparel industry

This paper considers the following five subjects : 1. The importance of the Turkish Textile and Apparel Industry in both local and global terms 2. Its development, particularly from 1985 onwards 3. The favourable conditions which helped that development 4. A review of those conditions in the light of current economic climates both within Turkey and beyond 5. Placing the obvious threat which has already emerged from China and India into perspective. Attention is drawn to the dangers of isolating individual cost elements rather than looking at total production cost, and the impact on production cost and profitability of dye house productivity.
