Dyeing is a finishing process which brings a variety of colours and patterns in the fabric. Pigment naturalrnor synthetic have no affinity for fibres, that are attached to the fabrics by means of adhesive, resin orrnbonding agent then the resultant colour is relatively permanent.rnExtraction of pigment from flower stalk of Parijataka (Nyctantbes arbora of tristis) and its utilization inrndyeing of cotton and silk fabrics, with the objectives as time for extraction, standardizing quantity of dyernmaterial, dyeing time, standardizing mordants concentration, time for mordanting, effect of combinationrnof mordants and colour fastness properties.rnParijataka is jasmine like scented white flowers, having small stalk of orange corolla tube. It is rich inrnyellow colour. Separate out orange colour stalk from white petals dried in shade and utilize for dyeing.rnPure cotton and silk fabrics prepared for dyeing by scoring and bleaching process. Sample dyed andrnmordanted with alum, copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate and aluminium ferrous sulphate for fixation ofrndye and development of various shades. Samples were examined for colour fastness such as washing,rnrubbing, sunlight and hot pressing. Colour strength measured by Tinctometer instruments.rnThe result revealed that extracted pigments found in combination of yellow and red pigment. 25 minutesrntime for extraction of pigment and dyeing of fabrics are found satisfactory and 2.5 g of dye material forrn1 g of cotton and silk is sufficient to obtain desire colour. It is found that 10 minutes time sufficient forrnmordanting and dye fixation.rnResults shows that washing fastness was excellent for cotton and silk fibre. Sunlight fastness is good inrncotton and excellent in silk. Rubbing fastness is good in cotton and excellent in silk fibre. Hot pressingrnfastness is found excellent to good in both the fabrics (cotton and silk). It can be concluded that, pigmentrnof Parijataka is suitable for dyeing and selected mordants also suitable for dye fixation and developmentrnof various shades.
