The Textile Industry occupies a unique position in the Indian economy. It contributes about 4% to our GDP, 14% to Industrial Production, 17% to Export Revenues and 9% to Excise collections. It also provides direct employment to about 35 million people (second largest after agriculture) and over 50 million indirect employment opportunities.
