This 1950 Oldsmobile sedan delivery is something of a mystery. While never a production vehicle, some believe that perhaps as many as seven were built, allegedly one for special duties at each of the division's various facilities. Chuck Schneider, the owner of the one seen here, takes a different view. Schneider, of Lapeer, Michigan, a 35-year veteran of Ford sales and marketing, believes his sedan delivery was built to study the feasibility of adding the body style to the line. (Chevrolet and Pontiac already had sedan deliveries at the time.) Schneider contends that a General Motors vice president (a rank held by division general managers) could have built a design study with funds from the Olds budget without seeking corporate approval. The vehicle has a unique style plate, but the serial number is not in GM records.
