Gordon Buehrig's Cord 810/812 design was too good to go down without a fight. Cord production ended in 1937, but the design was reborn a few years later thanks to Norman de Vaux. No one would call de Vaux a quitter either. Once the West Coast sales and factory manager for Chevrolet and Du-rant, he then built the short-lived De Vaux car. Auburn/Cord's receiver was willing to sell the 810/812 body dies for $45,000 and with them de Vaux saw a chance to get back in the auto game. He reasoned that a struggling independent automaker could use the Cord dies to launch a stylish new model with little investment.
