There's a first time for everything, it is said. That aphorism (which, ironically, wore out its own first-time freshness a long time ago) seemed to be the underlying message of the two-page Life magazine advertisement that introduced the 1971 Dodge Charger. "You've never seen a shape like this or a car like this before," the pitch proclaimed. It made a point of mentioning the expanded array of Chargers "ranging from the luxurious Charger SE to the Charger coupe," and added that "Dodge has priced Charger right down with the intermediate two-door hardtops." The ad concluded, "You can't afford not to be Dodge Material"-a tweak on the "Dodge Material" tagline introduced in 1970.
