Bill Robinson: Dedicated to Design

Detroit native Bill Robinson began his career as an automotive designer in 1948, when he joined the design staff at Kaiser-Frazer Corporation. Before the year was out, he moved to body producer Briggs Manufacturing Company, where he designed details for forthcoming Packard models-and also created a proposed Plymouth competitor to the Chevrolet Corvette. After Chrysler Corporation acquired Briggs in late 1953, Robinson transferred into the automaker's Plymouth Studio. There, he contributed much to the 1957 model taking form under the direction of Virgil Exner. Robinson designed the 1959 Plymouth before becoming a studio assistant, an executive position that brought him into the design-development loop of numerous vehicles.
