After jet turbines became the preferred propulsion for airplanes, it must have seemed natural that automobile piston engines would also give way to turbines. (And according to popular magazines of the Fifties, cars would eventually fly.) The Big Three American automakers and Britain's Rover experimented with gas-turbine engines, but Chrysler, known for its advanced engineering, clearly was the most serious about them.
