In the early years of the American auto industry, the "Three Ps"— Packard, Peerless, and Pierce-Arrow—were the top luxury cars. Perhaps the most exalted was Pierce-Arrow, said to be so exclusive that the Pierce board of directors and clientele were one and the same. Pierce-Ar-rows were in the White House garage from the Taft Administration into the FDR years.
