摘要

Mankind has its share of universal desires. One of the oldest and most persistent of them is mobility. Freedom of movement opens the door to the pur-suit of adventure or access to opportunity, and every transportation mode man has used-from a floating log to a space-bound rocket- has been intended to help him range further afield. In "Going Mobile," their early Seventies song about hitting the road, British rockers The Who accurately summed up what's behind this desire, declaring, "When I'm driving free the world's my home."The cars and trucks featured in this issue drive home (no pun intended) the universality and the diversity of the mobility ideal. Perhaps the most poignant example is the story of the Trabant.
