摘要

Emboldened by two years of extraordinary success, Studebaker executives gave principal designer Raymond Loewy and his team a clean slate to create an all-new line of cars for 1941. The only direction offered by President Paul G. Hoffman was that he "would be satisfied with nothing less than the smartest, most luxurious cars ever offered at any price"-quite a commission to be sure, but one that the French-born Loewy would find irresistible. No one knew it at the time, but the results would be a line of cars anchored by the low-cost, high-volume Champion line that would see the company through the immediate pre- and post-World War II years.
