Enjoyed the story about the brand-new 1949 models from the Big Three (CA, August 2012). One perspective that was not mentioned was how those '49 models pretty much established the template for the automobile for the next 50 years! It's long intrigued me how a car from the mid Fifties, today a 57-year-old car, does not look like an "old" car in the classic sense that a 50-year-old car in 1955 looked really "old" by comparison to the new models. A 1905 car was hardly more than a horseless carriage, barely more than a rudimentary puddle jumper as compared to the '55 or even '49 models.
