Mercury's little Comet grew up in 1966. After six years of sharing its basic platform with the Ford Falcon compact, the Comet moved to an all-new intermediate chassis that also underpinned the Ford Fairlane. The '66 Comet line was actually Mercury's second crack at a true intermediate, the first being the poor-selling Meteor of 1962-63.
