A Separate Path: The 1955-56 Imperial Story

Early in 1955, Chrysler Division secretaries in Detroit were busy sending out letters over the signature of division president W. C. Quinn. The letters were dispatched to registrars of motor vehicles in each of the 48 states and the various U.S. territories, advising them that effective immediately, the car formerly known as the Chrysler Imperial would from now on be a marque in its own right distinct from Chrysler and, for licensing purposes, should henceforth be registered as an Imperial, period.
