The years immediately following the end of World War II were an incredibly active and innovative time in the history of the automobile, particularly in America, where the pent-up demand for new cars was huge. Three-and-a-half years of automobile production were cancelled by the time the war ended, there were countless worn-out cars on their last legs. Many that weren't sacrificed to wartime scrap-metal drives had certainly seen better days.
