By the late Thirties the utilitarian station wagon was developing a cachet similar to today's luxury SUV. However, upscale Chrysler didn't have one until 1941. To make up for the late start, Chrysler Division General Manager David Wallace planned a luxury wagon that was more streamlined and stylish than the competition.
