A frequent complaint I hear from manufacturers and designers centers on the practice of their retail customers taking their ideas and sourcing them overseas. We are not the only industry practicing this fact-of-life, but it does happen with great frequency in the craft industry. Large retailers have the resources to accomplish duplication and can turn out the products more quickly today than ever, and at a fraction of the cost that vendors can, since retailers don't incur the costs of original research and development and marketing. Some of their savings are passed on to consumers. Hence, the market dries up for the pricier 'originals' providing the quality is of equal value.
