Separate maternity standards first appeared in 2003, and a review was commenced inn2007–2008 to ensure that they reflected latest thinking and were fit for purpose. This review includednan analysis of NHSLA maternity claims; assessment of current literature, including guidance publishednby the Royal Colleges; meetings with stakeholders, including patients; and focus groups for staffnrepresenting 75% of all relevant NHS trusts.
