New route to making antimicrobial textiles

A simple and inexpensive antimicrobial technology that works on natural and synthetic materials, can be applied during or after the manufacturing process and does not come out in the wash, is being developed at the University of Georgia in the US. Furthermore, repeated applications are not necessary to maintain effectiveness, according to Jason Locklin, the inventor, who is an assistant professor of chemistry in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and on the Faculty of Engineering.
