SERVITISATION - a concept that not many people understand yet- is one of the newer business terms that you need to know. Essentially, it's the process of bund ling customer service packages with products to add greatervalue. Or, in other words, it means to go 'beyond' selling and provide value-added services to customers. Typically, servitisation accompanies the selling of a traditional product - but if the service is valuable enough, it can simply replace the product itself. The idea of increasing the worth of a product by overlaying additional services is something that progressive business leaders in other sectors have offered forsome time. For example, in the medical industry, GE's healthcare division offers the service of installing its large medical devices throughout a whole hospital, and offering post-installation performance maintenance and monitoring. In the automotive sector, Mercedes announced its foray into servitisation earlierthis year with its app-based vehicle hiring service called Collection.
