SHANGHAI GENERAL MOTORS INTRODUCES SAIL SPRINGO EV

Shanghai General Motors, an Asian division of General Motors Corporation (GM), launched its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Sail SPRINGO EV, at the Auto Guangzhou 2012 show in China in November. A limited number of the high performance BEVs will initially be sold starting in Shanghai as part of a trial program to enable Shanghai GM to better understand Chinese consumers' preferences and user habits. It will sell for RMB 258,000. The Sail SPRINGO EV was developed by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), making it the first production BEV created by a Chinese joint venture. The BEV meets the highest global electric vehicle standards by using the latest industry battery and electric drive technology, says Shanghai General Motors.
