A report on the UK resources and waste sector's response to and resilience during the pandemic has been published by CIWM and the University of Exeter. The UK waste sector Covid-19 response and resilience report draws on feedback from sector stakeholders, including: the four UK government departments; environmental regulators; local authority, private and healthcare sector professionals; third-sector representatives; and health and safety experts. The research, which sets out immediate and longer-term learning and recommendations, explored:1.Contingency planning, key stakeholder engagement, guidance and communications 2.Service delivery, including early warning of disruption and effect of Covid-19 policy measures, such as key-worker status and regulatory easements 3.Staffing and resources, including absence and redeployment, and operational health and safety considerations 4.Access to data 5.Ongoing economic and environmental impacts.
