I was a little surprised and dismayed with the healthcare item in the January issue. A lot of hard work was done in the mid 1980s and early 1990s on clinical waste; so few years and yet we are back to the start once again. In London in the 1980s John Ferguson and Bill Townend of the GLC did some ground-breaking work with clinical waste collection and disposal, and they were always available to give advice, while the list of Institute members involved at the time is too long to mention.
