The UK and the US have pledged to reduce greenhouse gas GHC emissions by 80 percent and 83 percent. respectivelyl by 2030 in an attempt to abate global warming caused at least in part, by GHC emitted by human activitv. Fossil fuels are currently exploited to manufacture most plastics available on the market todav. Typically about one to two percent of a barrel of oil is used to produce petroleum-based plastics petroplasticsv such as polvethylene PE and polystyrene PS. This activiv is not sustainable and alternative materials must be sought to curb our addiction to non-renewable crude oil.
