An environment Agency (EA) crackdown on illegal end of life vehicle and scrap metal operations has resulted in the closure of nearly half of the 370 known sites in England and Wales. The EA estimates that legitimate businesses should benefit to the tune of £30m as the illegal trade is squeezed out, and legitimate operators are already feeling the benefit. A spokesperson for S Norton & Co, Manchester, an authorised treatment facility, said: "We've noticed a big difference in ourrnbusiness since several local illegal operators were closed down. It's good news for us but also for the environment.
