Classifying Environmental taxes is not easy because of the different forms they take and the different functionsrnthey perform. What are these taxes meant to achieve? Are they meant to change behaviour or raise revenue for thernUK Government? That debate does not look like being settled any time soon. There are, however, six generally agreedrnenvironmental taxes in the UK: fuel duty, vehicle excise duty, air passenger duty, climate change levy, landfill tax andrnthe aggregates levy. We will start by looking at how much revenue these taxes provide, followed by a brief outline ofrneach of them and, finally, what the 2010 Budgets have meant for environmental taxation.
