Plastic Bottle Recycling Up Six Percent

THE RECYCLING rate of plastic bottles in the UK has shown an encouraging increase in the last 12 months, according to the latest findings from Recoup. Its 2010 UK Household Plastics Packaging Collection Survey showed plastic bottle recycling rates increased from 39 to 45 percent. It also showed that more than 260000 tonnes of plastic bottles were collected in 2009, with the amount collected through kerbside systems reaching 215 000 tonnes. The report also indicates that 84 local authorities are reported to be actively collecting non-bottlernplastics for recycling (mixed plastics), with over 40000 tonnes collected in 2009.
