More Bonuses For Biogas?rnDEFRA IS consulting on amendments to the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) to further encourage anaerobic digestion (AD) - a key commitment of the coalition government.rnIt proposes that AD plants that simply produce biogas, and do not combust it, should no longer be subject to the full requirements of the IPPC Directive under the EPR. Instead they would simply require a less onerous environmental permit providing for waste controls. This would mean that plants intending to produce biogas for injection into the gas grid, or for manufacturing vehicle fuel, could be subject to a lesser regulatory burden. The exception will be facilities treating more than 100 tonnes per day of waste, which will become subject to the IPPC Directive under the new Industrial Emissions Directive, and as such will continue to be subjected to current controls.
