The recent, and very generous, contribution made by Marks & Spencer to the household waste recycling programme in Somerset has been a major factor in enabling plastic bottles and cardboard to be collected with the other recyclates and food waste, on a weekly basis, at the doorstep. This will considerably reduce the individual mileages to household waste recycling centres and maximise the amounts of this valuable resource recovered. On the doorstep, however, the main complaint is always the perception that the goods sold in supermarkets and other shops have excessive packaging.
