In the last issue we began by saying that it seems almost too simplistic to suggest that one of the biggest challenges faced by waste and resource managers trying to predict the future; specifically in terms of what may happen to waste volumes and composition in a rapidly changing world and economy. But, nonetheless, decisions do need to be made. I looked at issues of materials substitution and materials scarcity, food waste, the influence of commodity markets, designing out waste and the longevity of products. In this part we will move on to the people, policies and strategies required to predict the future.
