Mary (Moira) Hill: An Obituary

Moira hill, who passed away in August 2013. was the first woman in the UK to be awarded the Testamur of the Institute of Public Cleansing (CIWM at the time). Such was the significance of her achievement she was invited to the Annual Conference & Exhibition in Aberdeen in 1961 to receive it from the President P Duncan Fairlie, of Glasgow Corporation. Moira was very active and involved with the Scottish Institute of Environment Health and when it amalgamated with the Royal Sanitary Association of Scotland to form the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland in 1982, she was nominated a Member of its first Executive Council. By that time she was a Senior Cleansing Officer with Falkirk District Council.
