How confident are you that your waste isn't going to an illegal waste site, being managed at a poor performing permitted site or being illegally exported? The Duty of Care is a self-regulating system based on good business practice. It places a duty on anyone who, in any way, has a responsibility for controlled waste to ensure that it is managed properly and recovered or disposed of safely. Breach of the Duty of Care is a criminal offence; regulators should only step in when things go wrong.
