Famous for it's twisted church spire, Chesterfield is now home to another landmark building: an impressive new workshop facility for VWS (Vehicle Weighing Solutions to give it it's full name). But will swapping a cold, draughty old-style industrial unit for a nice insulated modern structure with heating, located on a modern industrial park, turn sales director Shaun Hamilton and his hardy team into a load of softies? Unlikely, I'd say. What the move will do is transform the scope of the services offered by VWS, shorten lead times and -and perhaps this isn't easy to say without a hint of criticism of the former workshop facility - improve quality standards and first-fix rates. Not that either were a major issue previously, you understand, it's just that now VWS has the physical workshop capability to match the technical development and unit production facilities that are based in Reading.
